According to a FINRA report, Jeffrey Bryan Meyer has been barred by FINRA for allegedly engaging 37 private securities transactions outside the scope of his employment with a FINRA member firm. According to these reports, stockbroker Jeffrey Meyer was engaged in the sales of corporate guarantees issued by United Private Capital, Inc. totaling approximately $1 million.
FINRA’s report goes on to reveal that in January 2010 Jeffrey Meyer also engaged in private securities transactions by participating in the sales to 13 investors of Strategic Lending Solutions LLC by promissory notes totaling $300,000. FINRA’s report goes on to note between August 2010 and July 2011 Meyer participated in sales to eight investors of K&M Oil Company, Inc. by promissory notes totaling approximately $238,000.
Brokerage firms like the one that Jeffrey Bryan Meyer was registered with have a strict regulatory duty to properly supervise financial advisors like Jeffrey Meyer to ensure that they follow FINRA rules and only sell securities approved by the firm. In cases where a stockbroker sells securities not-approved by the firm, the brokerage firm itself may be held liable for “selling away” if investors suffer losses in unapproved investments.
